John Maxwell is known for saying "everything raises and falls on leadership." I similarly say everything revolves around leadership. I think I love the topic of leadership so much because it really does control all aspects of our lives.
Now when I talk about leadership, you may be thinking I am talking about a person with a glorified position, someone like the President, a CEO of a company or maybe a ruler of a nation. But I need you to broaden your perspective on who is a leader. In its simplest definition, a leader is anyone with influence. With this definition in mind, the playing field just got a little wider. I say everyone is a leader. So if a leader is anyone with influence, that means mothers and fathers, big brothers and sisters, teachers, lawyers, doctors and so on are leaders. Many people don’t think of themselves as leaders, because they don’t think they have influence. But as a parent, how many times have you told an older sibling not to do something because their younger sibling was watching them. You were really saying, you are a leader and I need you to set a good example. When we understand that we are all leaders, it is then imperative that we realize that no matter the size of influence we have, we have influence. We must guard that influence and use it wisely. I understand that for my nine year old daughter I have a great degree of influence, and that influence is multiplied beyond just her. Let me give you an example. If I tell my daughter something, or speak about someone to my daughter, she will repeat it to others, and who every she has influence over will repeat what was said and so on. Since moving back to the United States, I have noticed that there is a great deal of disrespect for leadership in America. Whether it is disrespect for parents, police, or just those in positions of authority. From how elected officials talk about each other, to how the media speaks against the President. There is always a penalty when leadership at any level is disrespected; the solution I believe is to return to a healthy respect for leadership. To do this, it takes everyone realizing they are leaders and they have influence. No family, organization, community or nation will survive without a healthy respect for leadership…………………LEADERSHIP IS A NECESSITY, NOT AN OPTION !!! A little while ago I was having a discussion in one of the Facebook groups I'm a part of, and the topic of life balance came up. Everyone was giving their input and sharing their insight on the topic. Then I read one reply from my friend Felicia Davis, she said she didn't try to create balance, but harmony. For me this was a great mental shift and a welcomed change of view on the matter.
I love to study words, so I had to look up the definition of both words, balance and harmony. And sure enough, harmony was what I wanted, but balance was what I was pursuing. The definition for balance is a state of equilibrium; equal distribution of weight, amount, time, etc. Harmony means agreement; accord; harmonious relations. That's what I wanted, my life to have harmonious relations. Isn't that what we all want, for our families, career, goals and lifestyle to all work together and not compete with each other. This simple change of word usage gave me a different perspective on the matter. I really began to focus on the word "agreement." There is a scripture that says "How can two walk together, unless they agree." So in all my relationships I started to look for agreement, not balance. Let me give you a quick example. My daughter Karah is 9 years old and very active in school events. At least once a month, she had some activity at her school. We sat down and looked over her schedule and we agreed on the events that she really would like for me to attend. Armed with this knowledge, I was able to structure my schedule to come in harmony with my daughter's events. Let me share some great tips for creating harmony: 1. Decide what is important to you. 2. Communicate often with the most important people in your life. 3. Create a schedule that produces harmony. 4. Understand that you can't be everywhere. 5. Ask for help, when you see scheduling conflicts. What action step/s can you take today to create harmony in your life. In my book the "9 Practices to Guarantee a Great Day" I give a simple blue print for creating life harmony, you can download it for free. Think Better, Live Better, Dr. Will Author, Genius Potential America's #1 Leadership Life Trainer Please Share with Your Friends As a Leadership Life Trainer, my philosophy toward life is that you must lead the life you love. For me everything resolves around leadership and how you as an individual decide to lead yourself. There is a lot of talk about life balance and how to create life balance. I hear and read many solutions out there, but when it all comes down to it, it really boils down to one question, how are you going to lead your life?
When I sit down with a client, one of the first questions I ask is "What do you want your photo album to look like." I'm referring to your photo album of life, your memory bank. In your last hours of living, what memories do you want. To lead a life you love, you must set boundaries and set boundaries early. Learn to lead your life, and you can never lead your life trying to please everyone, IT JUST WON'T WORK. So here are a few tips for you to lead the life you love. KNOW WHO YOU ARE This may seem funny, but you would be surprise to find out, many people have lost them selves because they have been living other peoples ideas of them. KNOW YOUR LIMITS Superman and Superwoman are fictional characters, no, really they are. Just because you bought the T-Shirt, doesn't turn you into a super-hero. Do what you can, the best you can and be happy about it. KNOW WHAT YOU NEED Many people have never really asked what makes me happy. I'm very simple, I love my space and know what I like. The sooner you get to this place in life, life will be so enjoyable for you. Implement these 3 concepts into your life TODAY! Lead your life, lead it well and lead it free from outside opinions. Thanks In an interview with Peter Guber, author of Tell To Win, Hall of Famer Coach Pat Riley made the following observation, "There is a difference between having a good game and having game excellence." He went on to talk about how players like Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird had game excellence. Those players turned in excellent games night after night. Their game excellence started in practice, yes Allen Iverson, practice. To be a winner in life, and a person that experiences victory after victory, you must Plan, Prepare and Perform to win everyday. Have you ever observed that you PRACTICE more hours than the game itself? I invest hours some time crafting a one hour presentation. Winning takes a will to do the little things over and over and over again, every day. Building momentum and gaining expertise in what you are doing. I have a little saying with my clients, I tell them to commit to MSID, "Make Small Improvements Daily." I live by the training philosophy, every day I'm training, so at the end of each day, I review my training to correct, improve and enforce what I have done right or wrong. So today commit to MSID and daily reviews of your activities. Dr. Will Author, Genius Potential America's #1 Leadership Life Trainer ![]() P.S. We are having a 48 Hour Success Sale!!! So that means you need to develop a "Motivational Tool Box."
I tell you about that later, but first let me give you a few tips as well on how to get the most from your time. Each of us have peek performing hours where we feel the most energized, you need to identify yours. I work best when the house is quiet. So I like to wake up early in the morning and get my most important task done. The next thing you need to learn to do is finish projects that you are really not excited about FIRST. When you are your most energized you need to do the task that sap your energy, because you need more fuel to finish those task. And lastly, work in time frames. I give each project a time frame and when that time is up I leave it alone. I take a 10 to 15 minute brake and start to work on another project. This allows me to take a step back and when I return to the project I am fresh. Hope these little tips help. Now for your "Motivational Tool Box." With all the little gadgets we have now, it is very easy to create a MTB. On my iPhone I have podcast, books and music that motivate me. All in one place I can get some motivation. Before I get ready to tackle a project I blast my favorite song. I love listening to Jim Rohn and Les Brown so I have them on the ready. I allow them to talk to me when I feel like given up or I'm tired. Out of nowhere I hear "YOU GOT TO BE HUNGRY or DON'T ASK FOR IT TO BE EASIER." Pumps me up every time and gives me that extra boost I need. So find your times when you are most energized, start with the projects you least want to do and work in time frames. Be sure to create you an awesome "Motivational Tool Box" today. Think Better, Live Better, Dr. Will Author, Genius Potential America's #1 Leadership Life Trainer |
